Do-It-Yourself Optimization: SEO Tips

6 Quick SEO Tips

Optimizing your website for search engine performance can be extremely important. Many potential visitors will find their way to you through the search engines if you rank well on the results page. That's why search engine optimization (SEO) is a lucrative field for outside consultants. You can take plenty of steps on your own to improve your ranking without the expense of hiring a specialist, by including these simple SEO Tips.

SEO Tips 1. Sub-directories vs. Sub-domains.

This is a strategic question you need to settle early on. Search engines rank sub-domains (yoursalesblog.yoursite.com) as though they are individual websites. Sub-directories (www.yoursite.com/yoursalesblog) are ranked as part of the larger site. If you have very diverse subjects that you want to handle separately, sub-domains are the way to go. If your entire online presence is very focused, sub-directories will be more effective.

SEO Tips 2. Alt tags for images.

In the html code for any web page, you can include an alt tag that will be displayed to viewers who load the page with images disabled. This practice has grown less common as Internet connections get faster and faster, but alt tags are still important. The text of alt tags is read by search engine indexing robots, so you can gain a significant advantage by using tags that include your most important keywords.

SEO Tips 3. Use sensible internal links.

You might be building your website with some pretty powerful software. Many web design programs save you a lot of time, but they don't always produce good results from an SEO standpoint. Inspect your site's internal links and URLS. Any of them that look like gobbledygook (www.yoursite.com/a0bf659z.html) should be replaced with clear links that include keywords. (www.yoursite.com/your-product-features.html) Like alt tags, these kinds of links also contribute to page ranking.

SEO Tips 4. Hyphenate!

Note that in that last example URL, the individual words were separated by hyphens. This is no accident! You want to use hyphens in URLs and tags throughout your site. This is because search engines read hyphens as breaks between words. Underscores, the most common alternative separator, do not work that way. (e.g. "your-product-features" will read as three words; "your_product_features" will read as one word, yourproductfeatures, which is unlikely to be a common search term.)

SEO Tips 5. Blogs: Sticky posts./h3>

If your site includes a blog, take advantage of the powerful benefits of sticky posts. These are blog posts that are "pinned" to the top of the blog. They will appear on every blog page your visitors navigate to. This is a great way to prominently feature important content without duplicating it over and over. Duplicate content can be very bad for your search engine ranking.

SEO Tips 6. Blogs: Tag clouds?

Tag clouds – automatically-generated indexes to tags that occur frequently on your blog – are very popular. They are not always a good idea from a search engine optimization standpoint, though. You need to consider all of the navigation options you offer to your blog visitors. If a tag cloud is just one of many ways readers can navigate, it could be producing a lot of duplicate links.

If you're interested in improving your site's search engine ranking, give the above SEO Tips a try. They may well make a significant difference for you! There are lots of other SEO tweaks you can handle on your own, too. Keep learning about the process, use these 6 SEO Tips and you can turn yourself into your own optimization specialist!

Email mini-courses managed by an autoresponder like Aweber and are one of the best methods to dramatically increase your sales and build a relationship with a loyal list of subscribers which you can maintain contact with and send both informational and promotional emails on a regular basis.

This video demonstrates how an autoresponder can build and distribute your Email mini courses

	Try AWeber's Autoresponders for $1

Since most visitors, regardless of how relevant your landing page is, will leave, never return and will never buy on their first visit, a well- constructed email mini course solves that problem.

An email mini course works like this:

	1) On your landing page, you offer your visitor a free subscription to a 5-7 part online email mini course.

2) The visitor "opts in" (subscribes to your list) by giving their first name and email address.

	3) You automatically send the visitor a pre-written email mini courses lessons and follow-up messages every couple of days using your autoresponder software.

Now you have gained your visitor’s permission, to maintain contact with him or her for as long you want to until they buy or decide to unsubscribe from your emails.

Using email course you can build up your opt-in list. This will give you the opportunity to promote not only one product but also other complimentary products and special offers down the road. I have personally achieved the best results using 5-7 part Email Mini courses. Here's how you should structure it to maximize results:

	1) Use 5 separate articles as the lessons for your Email Mini courses. You can either construct your own articles or use the articles in our database. It wise to diversify the subjects of your articles (for example: day 1- the real cause of infertility, day 2- the connection between diet and getting pregnant revealed, day 3- the 3 biggest mistakes you want to avoid when trying to conceive exposed etc.)

	2) Setup your autoresponder software to send out a lesson every other day.

	3) Insert a follow-up message in between each lesson to make sure your subscribers received your previous lessons and to remind them of your future lessons.

Make sure you promote the program once at the base of each lesson and once at the end of each lesson. As always, don’t forget to insert your cloaked affiliate link at the end of each lesson.

If you have any questions about Email mini courses, please don't hesitate to contact me personally.

One of the contacts I have made is a pair of Professional Website Builders Temogen Amato and Mark G Roberts

You can find out more about their Website Building and SEO Services at:

http://www.professionalwebsitebuilders.com/

Temogen kindly sent me his 50 SEO Tips to Increase your Page Visits which I have reproduced with his permmission below for you

Go through them and make sure you are using some if not all of them on your Blog or site pages – Let me know what you think, have we missed anything, if so let everyone know by leaving a comment

1. On Site SEO: Glossary pages are good content for SEO

2. On Site SEO: Use footer links sparingly and only link to your most important pages. Don’t waste pagerank on content that is worthless.

3. Search: You need to get your site in to the blended search results using images and video. A picture is worth 1000 words and people are clicking on it.

4. Keyword Research: Use Google Insights to make sure the keywords you are focusing on do not have declining interest.

5. Analytics: Measure your brand traffic and keyword traffic separately.

6. Analytics: Are you ranking #1 (or trying to rank #1) for a keyword that will not provide any real benefit to your business? Check that. Use Keywords that bring in business not curiously seekers.

7. Keyword Research: Perform ongoing keyword research. The way people search changes.

8. Competitive Analysis: Read competitors press releases. Are they using words that may change the way people search? Think “Kleenex, Xerox, Dell”

9. Keyword Research: Use Google Trends to check traffic trends in different markets. There may be emerging opportunities in other geographic areas.

10. Keyword Research: How long will it take to get a keyword converting? Will it be worth it when it does?

11. Launching a new product that doesn’t exist in the market yet? Associate it with one that does to make people more comfortable with it.

12. Landing pages: put the call to action above the fold.

13. Landing pages: keep forms above the fold and make them as short as possible

14. Conversions: 3% to 5% is decent

15. Bounce rate: 30% is good, 50% is ok, 70% needs work

16. Search: 80% of queries are informational. Give them the information they want and then lead them where you want them

17. Forms: make sure there are no questions they can’t answer or they will leave

18. Does your “Thank You” page cross sell or further engage? It should.

19. User experience: Screen size and resolution matters. Test, test, test

20. Local search: Just because you are closest doesn’t mean you get the business. You need to build your brand too. Build trust.

21. Local search: Pull out your phone and do a search for your business. What happened?

22. Local search: neighborhoods matter

23. Local search: Pull out your cell phone and search for your business. What happened? (Duplicate)

24. Local Search: neighborhoods matter. Are you optimizing for a “bad neighborhood”?
25. Local Search: point your browser to getlisted.org and follow the instructions

26. Local search: Add photos and video to your local search listing

27. Local search: include city & state in the title tags

28. Even negative reviews help your rank. It’s all about the numbers

29. Offer an Incentive for reviews

30. Sign up to watch a video worked much better than sign up to download a white paper

31. 80% of your visitors will fill out an “optional information” form after completing your call to action

32. Most visitors will not watch more than the 2nd image of a rotating image.

33. Marketing and making money must be the #1 goal of your website

34. 7 choices tops for your main navigation. Too much = no choice

35. Don’t use a final forward slash on your URL’s

36. Buttons should never say “Submit”. Try “Download Now”, “Start Free Trial”, “Request More Information”

37. When building links make sure they have a random life

38. Link magnets are more productive than link begging

39. Local Search: Local business’s need local links

40. Text links in a page carry more weight than alt text

41. Link Building: No follow one link on a page and all become no follow

42. Link Building: The sequence of links on a page matters. Put the important ones on top.

43. Check your analytics for pages that are getting links and no traffic and redirect them.

44. Always be testing and measuring results. Before you change something get a benchmark.

45. The order of links in the code is more important than the order of links in the user experience

46. Surface conversations about your product, service or brand that are happening

47. Google’s technology is emerging to be able to read text in images. (Think picture of a newspaper page)

48. Google’s technology is also emerging to be able to understand words spoken in Video and index the transcripts.

49. If you are going to do video write the script with keywords in mind

50. If you use a map on your site embed a real map versus using an image.

As you might heard that Google just released their new service Google +1 button for social networking.

Simply called the Google +1 button

It looks like the same as Facebook like button – but it is from Google. Therefore, it is Google’s asset and Google will treat it as a great resource if your site had their button.

After testing this button here are benefits I found from 5 blogs with Google +1 button.

- New blogs and new pages were indexed faster than before!

In fact, 3 new blogs have all benefited from the button.

- Better ranking on pages that I’ve targeted to a specific keyword!

I’m still unsure if this is a result from adding the Google +1 button or not, but its working fine for me.

The results so far have convinced me to install Google +1 button into all of my blogs progressively over the next few days.

The purpose of this post was just to share with you that I’m using a free WordPress plug-in to do this. (It was not created or owned by me)

Click on the link below to download – It is completely free and you can set it up your Google +1 button in just a few minutes.

Google +1 button

Let me know how the Google +1 button works for you, leave a comment, or let me know if you need some help with this.

Let’s start this post with a question?

Is Quality FREE Content Really becoming just a Dream? Before you answer that here is a comment left on Paul Barrs new creation and site:

Maximum Success University

“This by far the most information that we have seen in one place for such a crazy price (free!) …”

Second Question…

Is your online business going to help you reach your goals?

Well get this … YOU are the cause for your business not being as successful as it could be.

What should you do about it? Quit? Walk away? Just give up?

I certainly hope not!

Maximum Success University

It’s not all your fault. There is just so much rubbish floating around these days that it’s getting harder and harder to distinguish between the good, the bad and the downright UGLY!

It all comes down to this… have you ever felt like there was just some LITTLE piece that’s missing, and that if you had it, your website would be a success? I know I did… and the reason I’m writing this post is to tell you about a guy who has

FINALLY figured it out, and is helping thousands of other people do THE SAME.

Now you don’t have to enroll at Cambridge anymore

I’m talking about Paul Barrs’ Maximum Success University

The doors are OPEN! And this site has the potential to help you help make a whole lot more money than you can possibly imagine.

Think about it… you didn’t really get into internet marketing so you could work MORE, work HARDER and earn less, did you?

So stop doing it!

I’ve had a look inside Maximum Success University and I can’t speak highly enough about what is being taught there. And whether you take the free or paid option, for this kind of price, there is NO way you should pass it up. In fact I have upgraded to a full Maximum Success University membership

————————-

CHECK OUT THIS REVIEW From IM veteran Bob Silber:

“… an exceptional, world class product… That is exactly what Paul Barrs offers here.

Maximum Success University is an excellant training platform where you can learn every aspect of Internet Marketing… You won’t have to buy another product to learn what you need to know.”

Maximum Success University

I don’t have much more to add to what Bob said – Maximum Success University is an INCREDIBLE package at a (currently) ridiculous price. Paul offers a free option and a paid option, with the paid option starting $17 and going up each 100 sales. I expect it’s going to be $400 or $500 in a just a few weeks.

History of the Internet

Ever wondered how the internet came into being? The University’s will spin a totally different story but if you choose to read on the truth will be revealed

This is truly a revelation with an Incredibly Big Message (IBM):

Here’s the TRUE story …

In ancient Israel, it came to pass that a trader by the name of Abraham Com did take unto himself a young wife by the name of Dot. And Dot Com was a comely woman, broad of shoulder and long of leg. Indeed, she was often called Amazon Dot Com.

And she said unto Abraham, her husband: “Why dost thou travel so far from town to town with thy goods when thou canst trade without ever leaving thy tent?”

And Abraham did look at her – as though she were several saddle bags short of a camel load, but simply said:

“How, dear?”

And Dot replied: “I will place drums in all the towns and drums in between to send messages saying what you have for sale, and they will reply telling you who hath the best price.

And the sale can be made on the drums and delivery made by Uriah’s Pony Stable (UPS).”

Abraham thought long and decided he would let Dot have her way with the drums. And the drums rang out and were an immediate success. Abraham sold all the goods he had at the top price, without ever having to move from his tent.

To prevent neighboring countries from overhearing what the drums were saying, Dot devised a system that only she and the drummers knew. It was called

Must Send Drum Over Sound (MSDOS), and she also developed a language to transmit ideas and pictures – Hebrew To The People (HTTP)

But this success did arouse envy. A man named Macabre did secrete himself inside Abraham’s drum and began to siphon off some of Abraham’s business. But he was soon discovered, arrested and prosecuted for insider trading.

And the young men did take to Dot Com’s trading as doth the greedy horsefly take to fresh camel dung.

They were called Nomadic Ecclesiastical Rich Dominican Sybarites, or NERDS.

And lo, the land was so feverish with joy at the new riches and the deafening sound of drums that no one noticed that the real riches were going to that enterprising drum dealer, Brother William of Gates, who bought off every drum maker in the land.

And indeed did insist on drums to be made that would work only with Brother Gates’ drumheads and drumsticks.

And Dot did say: “Oh, Abraham, what we have started is being taken over by others.”

And Abraham looked out over the Bay of Ezekiel, or eBay as it came to be known. He said: “We need a name that reflects what we are.”

And Dot replied: “Young Ambitious Hebrew Owner Operators.” ”YAHOO,” said Abraham. And because it was Dot’s idea, they named it YAHOO Dot Com.

Abraham’s cousin, Joshua, being the young Gregarious Energetic Educated Kid
(GEEK) that he was, soon started using Dot’s drums to locate things around the countryside. It soon became known as God’s Own Official Guide to Locating Everything (GOOGLE)

and that is how it all began

Really…

This is the True History of the Internet

This may help you with a recent Facebook problem…

Have you noticed that you are only seeing updates in your news feed from the same people lately? Have you also noticed that when you post things like status messages, photos and links, the same circle of people are commenting and every one else seems to have stopped using Facebook?

Don’t worry, everyone still loves you and nobody has blocked you. The problem is that a large chunk of your friends can’t see anything you post and here’s why:

With the latest FB changes, the news feed on your home page has a setting that by default is automatically set to show ONLY posts from people who you’ve recently interacted with or interact with the most (which would be limited to the couple of weeks just before people started switching to the new profile). So in other words unless your FB friends commented on one of your posts within those few weeks or vice versa, you are now invisible to them and they are invisible to you!!

HERE’S THE FIX: Scroll down to the bottom of the news feed on the homepage and click on “Edit Options.” Click on “Show Posts From” and change the setting to “All Of Your Friends and Pages.” Note: This is the fix for personal pages but I am unsure of whether or not the business pages are set up the same way.

Simply posting an update about it won’t do any good because many of your friends already can’t see your posts. You’ll either have to send out a message to everyone on your list (which is a rather tedious method) or post an event explaining the situation like this one and invite your entire friend list. You can also tweet about it hoping that most of your fellow Facebookers are also on twitter.

Shame on Facebook for altering the default setting and not alerting their users about it! Just think about how many companies posted Christmas sales and discounts without having any idea that their customers couldn’t see the updates.

SPECIAL NOTE: Be sure to invite your friends and leave a note on the invitation for them to do the same. Otherwise, they will not see it either. JUST BECAUSE YOUR SETTINGS ARE CORRECT, DOES NOT MEAN YOUR FRIENDS SETTINGS ARE CORRECT AND THEY MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SEE YOUR POSTS. Best to forward this invite to your friends as I said above with a note in the invite for them to do the same with their friends.

iPhone Info: If it’s an app, unfortunately you won’t find it at the bottom. If you’re using an iPhone, you should be able to access to site through your browser, Safari, and proceed with modifying your settings.

This Post was originally sent to me by My Facebook Friend Phil Hayes … Thanks Phil
