A few Things You should Know About SEO

In 2010, people are becoming more and more dependent in the internet. They use it for shopping, communication, work, research, and entertainment. All they need to do is type what they want to do, and the internet will give you the list of results of what you are looking for.

Websites try hard to keep up with this latest trend. They do their best to improve their sites, to earn top spots in search engine results. The process in improving your site for maximum exposure and increase in traffic is called Search Engine Optimization or SEO.

Optimizing your site to gain a top spot in search results, is not an easy thing to do. Some, would rather hire an SEO expert, than do the dirty work themselves. But for those who can’t afford to hire one, here are some simple facts about SEO, that can help you along the way.

SEO Fact 1

SEO takes time. It is an ongoing process, and needs constant monitoring. When a new site is formed, it takes search engines to detect the site and enter it in their database. Then, it would take more time for the site to actually show up in search results.

SEO Fact 2

Make your keywords work for you. The most important factor in SEO, is to make your keywords relevant and unique in it’s category. You have to make sure that what you are offering in your site is different, yet informative to your target market. Your keywords should reflect the substance of your site, and can be found throughout your content, to make it searchable and effective in attracting search engines and traffic.

SEO Fact 3

It’s all in the site! You may follow all the rules in SEO, and make your site search engine friendly. But, if the content of your articles, lack substance and informative knowledge, you’re still not going to get the traffic that you’re aiming for. The trick is to find the balance between what search engines wants, and yet, give your target audience what they want as well.

SEO Fact 4

Don't bother cheating it will never get you anywhere! The days of attempting to kid the search engines are over. Sites that cheat their way, by keyword overload (ie. putting long lists of keywords in pages), using invisible text (putting keywords in the background color so users couldn’t read it but search engines can) and creating fake pages. This may work for a time, but the penalty and possible banning from the net, is not worth the trouble. Just check out the new FTA laws in the USA

SEO Fact 5

Be aware of the Google Dance! Search engine ranking are not stable. One day your number one and the next day, your 100th. It is important to be vigilant in search engine optimization. You have to update your site from time, in order to keep up with competition. You need to build a website that is truly informative and relevant, and more importantly, you need to build a good relationship with other sites, in order to form links with them that would lead to your own site.

SEO is not easy, but it doesn't have to hard either. You just need to be on your toes in keeping up with the changes and demand of your target audience and search engines ranking. But once your in tuned with the basics, it would definitely ease your burden and make a difference.
